Sydney Metro Public Art Strategy

Sydney Metro Public Art Strategy

Client: Sydney Metro Authority
Year: 2009

PublicArt Works were responsible for the development of NSW’s first transit art policy & strategy. This project involved determining policy and product values for public art, appropriate for Sydney, yet based on international benchmarks; developing the range of applications and rationale of art to a transit system, and preparing returnable schedules for a subsequent tender process. We worked across the organization and to the Project Control Group to create a shared understanding of the importance of public art and the value of permanent and temporary art programming to the systems long term sustainability.

“Sydney Metro engaged PublicArt Works to prepare the Public Art Strategy and Tender section for the CBD Metro and Barangaroo Wynyard Pedestrian Link. Throughout the project they were professional and efficient, always ready with innovative and creative suggestions. Their work was always timely despite challenging deadlines. The art strategy for Metro is seen as having the potential to be one of the major innovations for the Sydney project setting new benchmarks internationally for the integration of public art in architecture and public infrastructure projects.”
