Delivering artworks for a new Parramatta River park

Wentworth Point

The restoration of the shoreline continues as remnant industries still slowly exit Homebush Bay. We have been working with Landcom and Context Landscape architecture to build a new park on Wentworth Point which decontaminates the site and reclaims the salt marsh and mangroves with artworks for the point, the playground and the maritime promenade.  River Stories- the public art curatorial framework and strategy for the park- acknowledges indigenous, industrial and maritime heritage.  Arrowanelly Park is to be named after the Durug word for “ísland’, referring to its precolonial place name, and the long disappeared island infilled and reclaimed for industrial use.

First up is an engagement program with the adjacent Wentworth Point Public School where artist led workshops will see some of the student’s artwork incorporated into permanent artworks for the park.  Artist Jade Oakley has been appointed to develop and run the program.
