We have just completed our smallest public artwork! Nestled in residential development in the Parramatta area, the custom-built gabion baskets contain fragments of the old flour mill collected by our curator and artist as the site was being excavated. Into the baskets also went artist Michael Keighery’s ceramic flour products – flour bags, loaves of bread (rye and white!) and croissants. We scoured the site, he scoured the archives of the state library to make coloured transfers of all the brands of flour Australia exported. The gabion baskets mimic the linework of millstones and have been beautifully made by blacksmith Lok Sutherland. Thanks to Landmark Projects who were excellent clients.
