PublicArt Works project managed the procurement of a feature sculpture on the external facade of the Gallery’s new $11m extension.
Matthew Harding was selected following a competitive tender, with other shortlisted artists Jennifer Turpin & Michaelie Crawford, Ben Gilbert and Belinda Smith.
“Crossing Paths” is a series of interwoven hyperbolic planes employing a lateral weave. The layering of the cable will create a ‘moire’ effect and produce a dynamic shadow play on the building’s north and east facade. Designed by NBRS Architects, the building was a perfect canvas for this kind of contemporary sculpture. Matt’s work is articulated at night with programmable LED lighting, contributing to the activation of QE II Square at the heart of Albury City.
