Community Art Project for Wentworth Point Public School

Artist Jade Oakley has been appointed to develop and run the program, conducting  a series of sophisticated art workshops for the Wentworth Point school children involving story telling, performance and creative activities, which will be incorporated into permanent art for the park..  Maritime Museum story teller Jo Henwood took the students through a participatory and highly entertaining history of the Parramatta River, while the education officer from  Muru Mittigar cultural center taught the students about how the Darug people lived in this place, how they used the land and found food. This was a perfect way to foster a deep understanding of the cultural and ecological significance of Wentworth Point and for the children to develop a sense of care and ownership of park, which will act as a defacto extension of the school grounds

Assisting artists Louise Trevitt and Anerleigh Simms helped the enthusiastic primarys develop drawings, sculptures and writings which Jade is now applying to design elements in what promises to be a destination playground.
